Wheels and Waves 2013 review.

Wheel and Waves 2013 review.

Last year the event saw it's first edition. This year for the only second time, the entire community was awaiting the W&W 2013. Without official marketing, without thousands of euros dollars in advertising, the staff created an event that the entire world is talking about. From LA Dice, to Deus, to all the neo Café racer industry knows the name of this event. And if they don't go there, they ll wait to see the photos that everybody is pimping to looks vintage.
Or they send someone to represent their brand or label. The apparently only source of funds is the sponsoring of the brands that you see on posters and website. But nothing aggressive.
All soft like the image of the event. (Event is free entry for all)

So Saturday, we went to see what was that W&W phenomena. The spot. A splendid spot at the feet of 18th century lighthouse. Hard to not think about American movies.
The bikes has different sections to admittance. Up in the street, outside of the spot: The common ones. Daily rides, not pimped enough to be under the lighthouse. At the feet of the lighthouse, the modified ones. Too much Harleys choopers at my tastes. Too new. Ok, start to be interesting. People are wearing
cafe racer nostalgias boots, fifty-nine clubs leather jackets, Chromewell replicas. The younger ones, wear are a mix of fashionista, wearing different motorcycle gimmicks on one man. Something a bit too much.
The open face early seventies helmets is the passport to get in. (Joke). Deeper in the area, the core of the event, with a bike show composed of the finest selection of the event. As I was there only two hours, I can't tell much. There was not really interesting motorcycles to me. May be because am more on  Indians and classic HD.
Friendly vendors, selective idea of motorcycling, but not discrimination. Next year  I do the race.

The Globe of Death World record

The history of world records in Globes of death began in early 20's with Speedy babes (USA) rode 1002 revolutions (Loopings) in one session.
Then, Bela Tabak and the riders of the thunderdome in 1999, established the world record of number of riders at the same time.
It was: 5 riders. In a Globe of Death of 4 metres 40 (13.9 feet), with one girl in the center.
In May 2011, your favorite daredevils, "Infernal Varanne", broked the world record with 6 riders in a 4 metres 25 (12.9 feet) Globe of death. And the girl in the center off course.

So the world record is now Infernal !

Text from a German Journalist
